How To Draw a Kitchen / Room in Two Point Perspective Step by Step Tutorial

Today I will show you how to draw a kitchen / room in 2 point perspective. This drawing has a lot of cabinets, a stovetop, a fridge, shelves, drawers, a sink, a vase, and a teapot. 2 point perspective (also called linear perspective) is a method using lines to create the illusion of space on a 2D surface.  This 2pt drawing method is defined by 2 vanishing points that represent 2 convergence points and infinite distance away. We will use this method to draw a contemporary kitchen.

Written-Out Drawing Instructions

(Step 1) Use a ruler to lightly draw a line across the paper. This will be the Horizon Line. Then draw a point on both sides of the line. These will be the Vanishing Points.

The Horizon Line is the height of the viewer’s eyes.

Where all the (non-vertical) lines meet the horizon line, those are your Vanishing Points. As objects get far enough away, they become very tiny, and eventually, they converge into a single point. We use this to create an illusion to make your art look 3-dimensional.

The vanishing point is the point at which something that has been growing smaller or increasingly faint disappears altogether. For example, when you are looking down the street and it looks like the houses are disappearing at a single point. This would be the vanishing point.

(Step 2) Draw a vertical line. This is the corner of the room.

(Step 3) Use a ruler to draw a line from the right vanishing point up thru the top of the vertical line we just drew.

(Step 4) Let’s draw the front counter. Draw 2 lines towards the left vanishing point.

(Step 5) Draw a line from the front line of the counter over to the right vanishing point (VP).

(Step 6) Draw some lines over to the left vanishing point (VP).

(Step 7) Draw some vertical lines.

(Step 8) We are creating the stovetop. Draw lines out to the right vanishing point (VP).

(Step 9) Continue to draw the stovetop. Draw lines out to the left Vanishing Point.

(Step 10) Draw some vertical lines as well as some out to the right vanishing point.

(Step 11) Draw a vertical line to finish the right side of the stovetop. Draw lines out to the left Vanishing point.

(Step 12) All of these lines go out to the right Vanishing Point.

(Step 13) Draw an “X” from all 4 corners of the one burner on the stovetop. This is to find the center of the partial circle we will draw in the correct perspective. Then draw lines to the right VP. We are starting to draw the back counter.

(Step 14) Draw a partial circle for the bottom of the teapot that we are drawing on the burner. Draw lines to the left Vanishing Point. We are drawing the countertops on the right side of the kitchen.

(Step 15) Let’s start drawing the cabinets on the right wall. Draw lines out to the left Vanishing Point. Draw another partial circle for the teapot.

(Step 16) Draw vertical lines on the cabinets/wall. Draw a partial circle for the top of the teapot.

(Step 17) Draw 2 partial circles for the teapot’s handle. Draw an oval for the top of the teapot. Draw 2 lines for its spout.

(Step 18) Continue adding to the teapot. Draw more of the cabinets, drawing the lines towards the left Vanishing Point.

(Step 19) Draw the lines on the burner over to the right Vanishing Point. Finish the teapot.

(Step 20) Draw a bunch of vertical lines to form handles and cabinet and fridge features.

(Step 21) Draw some lines out to the right Vanishing Point.

(Step 22) Draw some vertical lines.

(Step 23) Draw some vertical lines. Also, draw an “L” shape with the bottom part going towards the left Vanishing Point.

(Step 24) Draw some lines out to the left Vanishing Point.

(Step 25) More lines towards the left Vanishing Point.

(Step 26) Draw the ends of the pulls and handles.

(Step 27) Draw lines out to the right Vanishing Point.

(Step 28) Draw lines towards the left Vanishing Point. Draw 2 vertical lines for the faucet.

(Step 29) Draw in some fine details.

(Steps 30 + 31) Draw 2 parallel lines towards the right Vanishing Point. Add details to the faucet. Draw 2 vertical lines to draw a vase.

(Step 32) Draw something in the vase. You can draw flowers, I drew a wiggly plant.

(Step 33) Erase unnecessary lines.
