How to Draw City Street Scene in One Point Perspective – a Simple Step by Step Drawing Lesson

Step 1

First draw a horizontal line (this isn’t the horizon line though) and 2 rectangles (as seen above). The rectangles can be drawn with 2 vertical lines and a horizontal line.

Step 2

Now draw another Horizontal Line (This one is the Horizon Line) and pick a point for the vanishing point (if you want it to look like our buildings, then choose the center).

Step 3

Now take a ruler and draw a line from the bottom and top of each rectangle and draw a line to the vanishing point. You should get an ‘x’ like, criss-cross shape like I did (above).

Step 4

Now draw a vertical line closing off each building (as I did above) and then erase the rest of the line that you don’t need. Now you should have 2 3-dimensional rectangle shapes.

Step 5

Now do you want to add windows? Windows can be added with 1-point perspective as well. Just pick where you want to add the windows. Take a ruler, and draw 2 lines for the top and the bottom of the windows and draw a line to the vanishing point again.

Step 6

    Ty I’m trying to refresh my memory on drawing perspective. Helped me! I need all the help with drawing I can get I stopped years ago now I’m starting back up so back to basics for me.I want to do watercolor and still life’s..haven’t tutorials on those?

    Think your site is user friendly – and have saved it in my Favourites. I was ‘talented’ as a child did not pursue drawing and painting once I reached 19 years of age. Now in my sixties with time on my hands I find I have lost so much know how. Trying to get back into drawing and painting…. but oh what a challenge.
    Looking at at your site brought back memories. Cheers for now
