Do you want to learn how to draw cute cartoon elephants? Elephants aren’t always easy to draw, but after seeing how they are drawn, I bet you will shock all of your friends with your drawing abilities. I  have put together a step-by-step tutorial that will help you figure out how to draw  cartoon elephants by using simple shapes to build up this elephant’s form. This is an intermediate cartooning tutorial that kids, teens, and adults will enjoy. Even some younger children might be able to draw elephants if you stand by to help with the instructions. Enjoy!

How to Draw Cartoon Elephants / African Animals Step by Step Drawing Tutorial for Kids, Teens, and Adults

Step 1

Huh? What am I trying to draw there? That is weird!!! Well, what I was trying to show you (in the picture above) was that the elephant is made up of a bunch of simple shapes. Do you see the body of the elephant looks like an oval and the face of the elephant looks like a circle and an oval …etc Lightly draw the elephant’s simpler shapes the way that I did above. Don’t worry about mistakes because you can erase these later. Later, you will be using a pen or marker to outline the ‘right’ lines.

Step 2

Now lightly draw crosslines on the elephant’s face to figure out where to put the facial features of the elephant.

Step 3

Now that you have drawn the crosslines along the elephant’s face, you can draw the eyes right above these lines. You can draw the eyes as upside down ‘U’s and then close up the ‘U with curved downward lines. And then do the same thing for the iris.

Step 4

Now lets draw the elephant’s trunk. The top of the trunk looks a little like an ‘S’. The bottom looks a bit like a ‘U’.. Draw a lima bean type shape for the end of the elephant’s trunk.

Step 5

Now draw the elephant’s smile at the top of the trunk. You can draw 2 ‘U’s – the top one should be above and to the right. And then draw another ‘U that slants to the right for the cheek.

Step 6

Now clean up the ears of the elephant that you drew in the beginning. Also draw a few scribbles at the top of the elephant’s head for hair.
