DRAWING CUBES & BOXES : How to Draw Cubes or Make Nets in Order for Making Foldable Paper Boxes
The Text Above is Actually in Image Format, to Copy any Text, You Can Do So Below. Thanks. DRAWING CUBESThe lessons on the straight stick and the square plane are an excellent preparation for drawing the cube. Place a large cube before the class, on a horizontal plane and below the level of the eye ; or have the pupils construct small cubes of two or three inches in size, and place them on the back parts of the desks or on neighboring desks; or place the small cubes on the model support. The drawings should be made on blank page 3, — three on the upper half and three on the lower half. The cube can be made by marking out six squares on cardboard, arranged as in Fig. O, and then cutting out around the heavy outline, folding the cardboard where the dotted lines are placed, and pasting or binding the edges with strips of paper. When all are ready for the lesson, let each pupil draw a vertical straight line 1 - 2 for the nearest vertical edge, two and a half or three inches in length, as seen and arranged on a small scale in Figs. 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25. This line will be the unit of measure for all the other lines and distances. Now determine and draw the apparent slant of the two visible edges at the bottom by the lines 2 - 3 and 2 - 4; next the two visible edges at the top and in front represented by 1 - 5 and 1- 6. Then determine the apparent width, measured horizontally, of the right and the left faces as compared with the front edge 1 - 2, and draw 5 - 3 and 6 - 4, at the proper distance from r - 2. These edges being vertical in the object must be represented by vertical lines. Lastly, draw 5 - 7 converging with 1 -6, and 6-7 converging with I -5. The intersection of these two lines at 7 will represent the farthest corner of the top. Draw the converging lines longer than their proper length, so as to be sure they converge properly, as shown in Figs. 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25. If the cube stands directly in front of the spectator, as shown in Fig. 20, draw 1 - 2, 1-3, 2 - 4, and 3 - 4 in proper proportion to complete the front face. In this position 1 -3 and 2 - 4 will be horizontal and a very trifle longer than 1 - 2 and 3 - 4. |
