Do you want to learn how to draw Patrick Star from Spongebob Squarepants? I have put together a step-by-step tutorial that will help you figure out how to draw Patrick Star by using simple shapes to build up Patrick Star’s form. This is an intermediate cartooning tutorial that older kids, teens, and adults will enjoy. Enjoy!
Step by Step Lesson : How to Draw Patrick Star from Spongebob Squarepants
Step 1
First, use a pencil to lightly draw or sketch out the outline shape of Patrick. It might help you to try to think of Patrick’s outer shape to look similar to the shape of a squash or a tear drop. Try not ‘to worry too much about mistakes because you can erase any lines that you don’t like later on. Later, you will be using a pen or marker to outline the ‘correct’ lines.
Step 2
Now draw two side-ways ‘U’ shapes for Patrick’s arms. These arms should start at approximately the center of Patrick’s shaper (vertically). If you try to think of Patrick (or anything that you draw) as a a collection of smaller, easy to draw shapes, then you will find drawing Patrick to be a snap.
Step 3
Now you can sketch two ‘U’ shapes for Patrick’s legs.
Step 4
Now you can draw a sideways ‘8’ shape for Patrick’s eyes.
Step 5
Patrick’s sleepy / groggy look is created by giving Patrick lower eyelids. Look below to see what I mean.
Step 6
Now put 2 dots in the circles for Patrick’s irises. Also draw 2 sideways ‘M’s / ‘W’s’ for Patrick’s eyebrows.
Step 7
Draw a nick smile for Patrick.
Step 8
Draw Patrick’s belly button which are 2 ‘U’ shapes, one above the other. Also draw Patrick’s shorts as well. It is okay that these shapes are built right on top of each other. That is what erasers are made for.
Step 9
Now just draw flowers on Patrick’s shorts and you are done with the sketching. Since the flower patterns wrap around Patrick’s body, you won’t be able to see more than a few petals from each flower.
Step 10
Now you just have to erase lines that you don’t need and outline the ‘correct’ lines with a pen or marker. If you are having problems figuring out which lines to erase, then reference my drawing (below) for help.
Step 11
Use your watercolors, markers, colored pencils, crayons, or chalk to color Patrick and you will have an amazing Patrick Star to show off to your friends.
